Welcome to the Family
New Believer's Guide
You have made the most important decision of your life. Heaven is rejoicing right now. This guide is your first map — where to start, what to do, and how to grow.
"Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth."
Luke 15:10
Are You Saved?
If you arrived here from one of our tracts and are not yet certain you have trusted Christ, start here. The Gospel in plain terms:
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
Romans 3:23 — Every person is a sinner before God.
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Romans 6:23 — Sin earns death. Eternal life is a free gift.
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 5:8 — Jesus died in your place.
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Romans 10:9 — Trust Christ, and you are saved.
Salvation is not a prayer formula — it is placing your complete trust in Jesus Christ, His death, burial, and resurrection, as full payment for your sin. Tell God in your own words. He will hear you.
For a fuller explanation, see our Salvation page.
You Can Know You Are Saved
One of the first things the enemy will try to do is make you doubt. "Did that really work? You don't feel any different." Do not listen. Your salvation rests on God's promises — and God cannot lie.
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life."
— 1 John 5:13
"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."
— John 10:28
"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
— Romans 8:38–39
Write those verses down. Memorize them. When doubt comes — and it will — go back to the promise, not the feeling. You believed. He promised. That is settled.
Baptism
Baptism is not what saves you — you are already saved the moment you trusted Christ. But it is your first public act of obedience as a new believer. It is your declaration to the world: "I belong to Jesus."
Baptism by immersion pictures the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Going under the water symbolizes dying to your old life; coming up pictures rising to walk in newness of life. This is how Jesus Himself was baptized:
"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water…"
— Matthew 3:16
"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
— Romans 6:4
Key points:
- ▸ Baptism comes after salvation — not before, not instead of it.
- ▸ It is done by immersion, following Jesus's example.
- ▸ It is a public testimony of your private faith.
- ▸ It is commanded by Christ (Matthew 28:19).
- ▸ Do not delay — find a good church and be baptized soon.
Getting a Bible
The Bible is God's Word — His letter to you. If you do not have one, get one as soon as possible. We recommend the King James Version (KJV) — the most time-tested, most preached, and most memorized English translation.
Read Free Online
The KJV is available free at BibleGateway.com — on any device, any time.

How to Read Your Bible
The Bible can feel overwhelming at first. Start small and stay consistent.
Where to start:
- 1. Begin with the Gospel of John. Written specifically so that you might believe and have life in His name (John 20:31).
- 2. Then read Romans. The clearest explanation of salvation, sin, grace, and the Christian life in the entire Bible.
- 3. Read a little every day. Five minutes of daily reading beats an hour on Sunday and nothing the rest of the week.
- 4. Pray before you read. Ask God to open your understanding. He wrote it and He wants you to understand it.
- 5. Don't skip the hard parts. If something confuses you, write it down and ask your pastor or contact us.
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
— Psalm 119:105
How to Study the Bible
Reading covers ground. Studying digs deep. Both matter. Here are habits to help:
Read in context
Never build a belief on one verse alone. Read the whole paragraph and chapter. A verse out of context can mean almost anything.
Ask three questions
What does it say? What does it mean? What does it mean for me? Move through those three steps with every passage.
Mark your Bible
Underline verses that speak to you. Write notes in the margins. A Bible that is worn and marked is a Bible being used.
Memorize key verses
Start with John 3:16, Romans 10:13, and 1 John 5:13. A verse memorized is a sword you can draw at any moment.
Let Scripture interpret Scripture
When something is unclear, look for other verses on the same subject. The Bible explains itself when you give it room.
Sit under preaching
There is no substitute for a God-called preacher opening the Word week after week. Find a church where the Bible is preached verse by verse.
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
— 2 Timothy 2:15
How to Pray
Prayer is simply talking to God. No formal language, no special posture, no memorized script required. God is your Father now — talk to Him like it.
A simple pattern to start (ACTS):
Adoration
Praise God for who He is — His goodness, His power, His love. Fix your mind on Him before yourself.
Confession
Tell God honestly where you have fallen short. He already knows — confession keeps you humble and the relationship open.
Thanksgiving
Name specific things you are thankful for. Start with salvation. Add everything else from there.
Supplication
Ask for what you and others need. Pray for your family, your church, and the lost around you.
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."
— Philippians 4:6
How to Find a Good Church
God never intended the Christian life to be lived alone. The local church is where you grow, worship, serve, and are held accountable by people who love you. Finding a solid, Bible-believing church is one of the most important decisions you will make as a new Christian.
Do not just watch online. Get in a pew. Shake hands. Hear the Word preached in person. Be known. That is what the church is for.
What to look for:
- ▸ The Bible is preached as the final, absolute Word of God
- ▸ Salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone is clearly taught
- ▸ The King James Bible is used and preached
- ▸ Baptism by immersion of believers is practiced
- ▸ The congregation has a genuine heart for reaching the lost
- ▸ The pastor preaches verse-by-verse through Scripture
- ▸ There is real, earnest prayer
- ▸ New people are welcomed and discipled
Red flags to watch for:
Be cautious of churches that downplay sin, avoid the topic of hell, preach self-improvement over Scripture, or where you never hear the Gospel presented clearly. If you are unsure about a church, ask us — we are glad to help you think it through.
"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."
— Hebrews 10:25
